The health benefits of fennel include anemia, indigestion, flatulence, constipation, cramping, diarrhea, respiratory disorders, menstrual disorders, eye care, etc.. Fennel, or essence, is widely used around the world in soft sores, toothpastes, desserts, antacids and cooking. In addition to these uses of fennel, numerous medicinal and health benefits, mainly due to the components of essential oils which can be summarized as follows:
Anemia: Iron and histidine, an amino acid found in fennel, are useful in the treatment of anemia. Where iron is the main component of hemoglobin, histidine stimulates the production of hemoglobin and also helps the formation of other blood components.
Indigestion: It is common practice, especially in the Indian Subcontinent, chew fennel seeds after meals. This is to facilitate digestion and breathing to keep bad breath away. Some components of fennel essential oils are stimulating the secretion of digestive juices and reduce inflammation of the stomach and intestines and facilitate proper absorption of nutrients from food. It also has anti-acid (basic) and is widely used in antacid preparations. It is an appetizer too.
Flatulence: Fennel is a popular anti-flatulent, carminative properties due to aspartic acid in fennel. Its extract can be used in children or adults, cure for flatulence and expel gas from the stomach.
Constipation: Fennel seeds, especially in powder form, act as a laxative. Fiber helps the intestines settlement, while the stimulating effect helps maintain proper peristaltic movement of the intestines, helping proper excretion.
Diarrhea: Fennel is useful to cure diarrhea if caused by bacterial action, as some components of essential oils of fennel as anethole, cineol etc. have disinfectant properties and anti-bacterial. Some amino acids such as histidine aid in digestion and proper functioning of the digestive system, helping to treat diarrhea due to indigestion.
Colic: heavy molecules and polymer fennel are useful in the treatment of renal colic. Such polymers, also called phytoestrogens, are in the anethole, a component of the essential oils of fennel. Therefore fennel, with this virtue, it is useful in the treatment of renal colic.
Respiratory Disorders: Fennel is useful in respiratory disorders such as congestion, bronchitis, cough, etc., due to the presence of cineole and anethole are natural expectorants, among its many other virtues.
Menstrual Disorders: Fennel is also an emmenagogue, ie, facilitates and regulates menstruation through the proper regulation of hormone action in the body.
Eye Care: The use of fennel in food helps protect eyes from inflammation, aging-related disorders, macular degeneration, etc., due to the presence of antioxidants (vitamin C, amino acids such as arginine, which is very beneficial for rejuvenating tissues and prevention of aging), detoxifying and stimulating, etc, more specifically in its essential oils, and minerals such as cobalt and magnesium. The juice of the fennel leaves and the plant can be applied externally over the eyes to reduce irritation and eye fatigue.
Other Benefits: Fennel is a diuretic, ie, the amount and frequency of urination, helping to eliminate toxic substances from the body and helps with rheumatism, inflammation, and so on. It also increases the production and secretion of milk in lactating mothers and milk well contain some of the properties of fennel, anti flatulent for the baby too. Strengthens hair, prevents hair loss, relaxes the body, sharpens memory and has a wonderful cooling effect in summer if you take the water of fennel greenish-yellow, with a little sugar and black salt.
Warning: You must remember that everything has two sides and the excess of anything is harmful. This is true also for the fennel. Certain components of essential oils such as anethole, and a few chemicals in the fennel as well as being beneficial, it can be dangerous if taken in excess, because we must remember that the compounds that can kill bacteria and microbes in low doses can be harmful for you too.
